AfterShip Signs New USPS Agreement to Ensure Uninterrupted Tracking Data Access

At AfterShip, we are committed to providing branded retailers with the most accurate and dependable data in the industry. That is why we are pleased to announce that we have reached a formal agreement with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to integrate with their new paid tracking policy, which goes live on April 1, 2026.

This proactive agreement enables AfterShip to continue providing reliable, real-time tracking data without service gaps as the USPS transitions to its new "PTR2" modernized platform and fee-based access model.

As part of this shift, the USPS is implementing new security and access controls for its tracking APIs and webhooks. While label providers and direct shippers will retain no-cost access for their own shipments, third-party service providers must now enter into formal API licensing agreements and pay for tracking data. By proactively signing this agreement, AfterShip is among the first service providers to align with the new USPS standards, protecting its clients from the potential blocking of unsigned accounts.

''This policy change fundamentally shifts how third-party access to USPS tracking data works,“ said Teddy Chan, CEO of AfterShip. “We quickly secured direct API access so our customers don’t have to navigate that complexity or risk disruption to their business. Our role is to ensure tracking continuity remains reliable, compliant, and invisible to the retailer.”

Modernized Tracking for the Modern Retailer

The move to the PTR2 platform represents a significant modernization of the postal tracking infrastructure. The new system offers higher availability, more timely data, and simplified status updates. AfterShip’s integration with the latest Tracking 3.2 APIs ensures that its technology remains compatible with these USPS upgrades.

This reinforces AfterShip’s position as a compliant and trusted partner for its customers within the global carrier ecosystem. By managing the technical and commercial complexities of the USPS policy change, AfterShip allows retailers to focus on their business while maintaining high standards for the post-purchase experience.
